After decades of precision thread rolling, Rolled Threads Unlimited has amassed a library of more than 2,600 sets of thread rolling dies. The most common threads produced are Acme, Unified, Metric, Trapezoidal and Worm threads, but we have the versatility to provide a broad range of other thread forms as well, including:
Ball thread
More mechanically efficient than an Acme thread, a ball thread is made with a gothic arch profile that’s slightly larger in radius than the ball bearings traveling inside. It yields low friction for linear motion applications in the aircraft, automotive, machine tool and robotic industries, among others.
Coil thread
Coil threads mate a bolt with wire coil inserts for a strong hold that lasts over time. They are used primarily for bolts that tie together concrete forms, but are also used with soft materials like aluminum in the aerospace, automotive and boatbuilding industries.
Pipe thread
Pipe threads are effective for sealing pipes that transport liquid, gas and steam. The taper on pipe threads allow the flanks of the threads to compress against each other, creating a tight seal. The United States uses National Pipe Thread standards, but different standards, such as British Standard Pipe Threads, are often used outside the U.S.
Whitworth thread
The Whitworth was the world’s first national screw thread standard, specified in 1841 and later adopted as a British standard. Today, Whitworth threads are used widely on screws for specialty products such as camera tripods, stage lighting and garden gates. In addition, the British Standard Pipe thread uses the Whitworth thread form.
Buttress thread
Buttress threads are used for their low friction and greater load bearing in a single direction. Lead screws with Buttress threads are commonly found in machinery, such as lathes. Buttress thread pipes are often used in oil fields for hydraulic sealing.
Rolled Threads Unlimited has the versatility to roll threads in a variety of forms for many different alloys, sizes, strengths and tolerances. Contact us today to discuss all your rolled thread needs.
